Goodbye Defy!

Today my DEFY washing machine decided that this was her last day, on this earth. Kicked the bucket and went to DEFY heaven.

No goodbye note, no warning, or even taking the time to ask me if this was good timing for me? Nothing, just gone. Such bad financial timing! I find that this is often the case with things in life.

Of course this machine was over 10 years old and has served a full well lived life. She has worked hard for most of her life for my Ouma (Gran) and then for me. How can I hold a grudge against her? It was her time, as all machines are built to last 10 years.

I was not going to let her go without one last fight. I called 'The Guy', you know, the one you call for times like this. He came in, opened her up, and within 5 minutes shook his head and said 'It's time to let her go'. And then proceeded to close her up and left!!

There I was standing in front of my trusty machine. Thinking...

What now...

This is such bad timing...

Finances are tight...

Wash basket is overflowing...

And to top it all off what do you do with the machine once she's decided to leave this world? Bury her? No... Can't do that, that's pollution. Is there a 'Guy' I can call for this job? My good friend Kate, had a very appealing suggestion. "Maybe throw her off the balcony and leave her to the wolves." Mmmm....

No lets get serious here. I tried to google it. "How do you dispose of an old washing machine?" The search came back with so many options on how to dispose of dirty water. There was one interesting response though. It led me to this blog. http://www.strangecultureblog.com/2006/10/broken-washing-machine-disposal.html. Very interesting, am thinking of joining and trying my luck!

In the end I let myself grieve for 5 full minutes.
Took a deep breathe...
And moved on...
